Amazon + Android = Awesome

A few weeks ago Amazon launched their CloudDrive and their CloudPlayer, which allows you to upload your music to their system, and then stream *your* music to any supported device. Right now, “any supported device” means everything but iOS since Amazon’s MP3 Player and Store would conflict with iTunes. Now we all know that iTunes is a horrible, horrible program, and a terrible user experience. Amazon’s MP3 store is easy and clean to use. And now, any new songs you buy, can be immediately stored in the Cloud forever.

That’s all great, but this morning I saw something even cooler, in the update notes for the Android Amazon MP3 app:

• Fixed CM7/Xoom issues

Xoom refers to the Xoom tablet. I should note that the G-Slate I have also had an issue with the previous version, but all that seems to be fixed now. No, the cool part is “CM7″. CM7 refers to Cyanogen Mod 7, a community created and maintained version of Android’s Gingerbread operating system. I use it myself on my Nexus One. So, the super cool thing is, Amazon is supporting a popular community based ROM. They didn’t have to do it. Apple would never do it. Google might, since they’ve been helpful with Cyanogen before. It’s just awesome to see a big company like Amazon fully embrace the Android community. I’m really looking forward to future products from all of them, Amazon, Android, and Cyanogen.
